On this special Sunday, public school, private school, homeschool kids, teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, college students, and simply anyone involved in any capacity of education are invited to bring a backpack, bag, briefcase, or satchel to church that morning. The bags are placed across the stairs of the stage and during a special time in the service, our congregation joins together to pray over the bags and the people they represent.
We began this tradition at Five Forks several years ago as a way of recognizing the importance and blessings of education and as a reminder of all of God’s faithfulness and care. We are reminded that God walks with us always and sends the Holy Spirit to strengthen and equip us for all the steps we take in life. God’s got your back!
Each year we create a new tag with a scripture verse to place on every bag. The tag serves as a reminder to the individual every time they see it, that the people of Five Forks Church are praying for them, caring for and supporting them as they go about their days. The Bible verse is a reminder that God is with each of us always.
Join us, Sunday, August 20th for this special time of the 9:45 a.m. service. Don’t forget your backpack!
