OVERVIEW – The DOCM has the responsibility of providing vision and leadership in three primary areas of ministry that includes:
- Sunday Morning Programs
- Wednesday Evening Programs
- Summer Programs (Vacation Bible School, Camps such as Lego, Craft, Music, etc.).
Other responsibilities outside of these 3 primary areas include (but are not limited to):
- Keeping abreast of our Child Abuse Prevention Policy and overseeing the safety and security of our children
- Participating in weekly staff meetings
- Taking advantage of community outreach opportunities
- Visitation (homes, hospitals, nursing homes)
EXPECTATIONS – The individual serving in this position must have a dynamic personal relationship with Jesus, be well-versed in the Scriptures, and be aware of and embrace the Core Values of our church and the Brethren in Christ denomination.
This individual will lead a ministry where our children learn Biblical truths that will help them discover how to live out their faith through their own personal relationship with Jesus.
Planning/Administration: The DOCM will be responsible for selecting curriculum that is in line with our Core Values. In addition to curriculum, the DOCM will be expected to formulate a comprehensive master plan with spiritual foundation building blocks for each class/age level. This comprehensive plan will be effectively communicated and discussed with volunteers for kid-friendly integration into the lesson plans.
Volunteers: In addition to effectively communicating the comprehensive plan, the DOCM must possess the ability to recruit, motivate, encourage and train volunteers who will have a great impact on the success of this ministry. Volunteers should be provided with tools to creatively and age-appropriately connect with the children. They must know that they can look to the DOCM for ideas and input into lesson planning and how to handle potential or real life issues in the classroom. The DOCM will ensure that necessary supplies and resources are made available to all volunteers.
Families: The DOCM will be visible during services and events, greeting new and regular families, following up with families, and addressing any questions and concerns. The DOCM should be proactive in documenting expectations and guidelines for the children. Timely and consistent follow up in the event of concerns of parents (as well as volunteers) will be the expectation.
Support Teams: The DOCM will be expected to make use of Support Teams that will help evaluate, plan and implement changes/enhancements that will further the work of Children’s ministry.
General: The DOCM should have insight in how to best connect and communicate with children, understanding the culture of children today.
The DOCM will be expected to incorporate worship music into the Children’s Ministry on a regular basis including Sunday Morning.
It is important that the DOCM is able to remain calm in the face of adversity and conflict, and be able to implement a solution competently and tactfully.
Education: We will be seeking an individual who has training and knowledge in the area of Child Development as it relates to Children’s Ministry. It is preferred that the DOCM have a degree in Children’s Ministry, Elementary Education, or equivalent experience in Children’s Ministry.
The Children’s Ministry at Five Forks is comprised of approximately 150 children (nursery through 5th grade). This is a full-time position with the expectation of 50 hours per week of ministry related activities (flexible work schedule). Starting salary approximately $45,000 plus a strong benefits package.
