The Blessing

The Blessing
“Ah, the smell of my son…”   So begins Isaac’s blessing over his son, Esau.  Or so he thinks.  Isaac is blind, and the one actually receiving the blessing is Esau’s twin brother Jacob.  He’s dressed up as Esau in order to deceive his father and receive this blessing.   It’s strange, once the blessing is given, everyone is acting as if it’s something that can actually be stolen.  They were only words, why can’t Isaac simply take them back and bless Esau as he intended?
This Sunday we begin a two-week sermon series called The Deceiver Deceived.  This week Pastor Bill is going to have us take a closer look at this blessing, the questions that it raises, and hopefully some answers that will help us see how God chooses to work.
Our Scripture text is Genesis 27:14-34, so be sure to read this before Sunday morning.
