Hurry Up and Read This!
There’s a lot going on, and we don’t want you to miss any of this important information!  Pastor Shaun is about to kick off a new sermon series, and we’re just days away from the start of the voting period when, among other things, we’ll be electing three individuals as congregational representatives to the Church Board.  On top of that, we believe that there’s a good chance we’ll be resuming In-Person services in early February!
SERMON SERIES: HURRY UP!
By Pastor Shaun
What would you say is the greatest threat to following Jesus in our world?  Secularism, materialism, threats to religious freedom?  All very important topics and certainly relevant in today’s world.  But perhaps not the greatest threat.  One of my favorite writers….Dallas Willard writes this:  “Hurry is the great enemy of spirituality in our day.  You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.”
Did you watch my video earlier this week?  Ever feel like life and your schedule is a whirlwind.  A to-do list that keeps getting longer?  Deadlines you are constantly trying to meet?  Practices, events, and family gatherings scheduled non-stop?  Do you feel weary and burdened by life?  And more importantly, have you ever stopped to think about what this speed of life is doing to your soul?
Jesus, the Master teacher offers humanity, you and me one of the greatest invitations you’ll ever receive in life.  He says, “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened…I will give you rest.”
This Sunday, Jan 24, we’ll begin a 5-week series addressing, hurry, this most significant threat to our lives and how we can accept Jesus’ invitation to a life of rest.

ELECTRONIC VOTING INSTRUCTIONS
As you know, we will not be gathering In-Person for our 2021 Annual Council meeting.   Instead, we are requesting that those who have internet access to vote electronically this year.  (We have mailed paper ballots to those households for which we do not have an email address.)  The voting period will take place over an 11-day period, starting this Thursday, January 28th, and ending Sunday, February 7th.
If you have provided us your email address, you should have received – via email – the 2021 Annual Council Report, as well as detailed information regarding the candidates for Church Board.  We trust that you have had a chance to review this information and are prepared to participate in the voting process!
You do not need to be a member in order to vote; everyone in your household who is 16 years of age or older and calls Five Forks his or her home church is welcome to submit a ballot.
A link that will take you to your ballot will be sent out just prior to the voting period, and you will see that the ballot has three parts.
1.  Confirmation Vote for Grounds & Maintenance, Deacon Board, Finance Committee
This is not an election, rather, we are asking you to confirm all the names listed on this part of the ballot (the names can be found on page 2 of your Council Report).  In order to do this, simply  vote “Yes.”  If there is a name you are not able to confirm, please vote “No” and indicate on the following line the name or names you do not wish to confirm.
2.  2021 Spending Plan
On the second part of your ballot, you will see that we are asking you to approve the 2021 Spending Plan figure which is $870,642.  Please refer to pages 33-37 of your Council Report for detailed information.  Note that while the figure in your report indicates a figure of $868,642, we mistakenly had Pastor Shaun’s salary set at $2,000 below the actual figure.  In order to approve the $870,642 figure, please vote “Yes.”  In order to not approve, please vote “No.”
3.  Church Board Election
The third and final section of your ballot involves the Church Board election.  You will see the names of seven candidates, and we are asking you to vote for up to three (3) to serve as your congregational representatives.  Simply check the box by the names of the 1, 2, or 3 candidates that you would like to vote for.
