The Church Board’s monthly meeting took place on Tuesday evening, July 9th. Here is a summary report from the July board meeting.
GENERAL ITEMS
Pastor Bill reported that attendance was down slightly from May, while contributions for 2019 are slightly up over last year at this time.
Bill also reported that some in our congregation are looking to put together a Pancake & Pajama outreach event in October; providing breakfast and pajamas for children of the community.
Pastor Shaun reported that in the Fall we will offer a 3-week Connect Class with the intention of getting new individuals and families further involved in our church community. Pastor Bill, Chris and Jen Bumbaugh, and Steve and Melissa Mitchell will be a part of these classes and lead various topics.
Bill reported that the Search Committee for the Director of Children’s Ministry (consisting of Ken Arendt, Lisa Eby, Ellen Egolf, Brett Kagarise, Angie Petersheim, and Jean Showalter) met to organize and make plans to review the resumes that will be coming in.
Treasurer Ron Strite reported that the church received a $20,000 donation from an estate, with $15,000 being designated to the Benevolent Fund, and the remaining $5,000 to be used for missions. $2,000 will go to the REVIS ministry in Mozambique, $2,000 to Bethlehem Ministries, $500 to New York Navigators and $500 to City Chapel, a new outreach ministry in Hagerstown, MD.
ACTION ITEMS
The Board approved a request from the Connect Team to establish a Coffee Kiosk in the auditorium lobby. This will be done on a six-month trial basis, at which point the Board will re-evaluate. The rationale behind this is to help people connect and form relationships and to make sure that those who attend for the first time are made to feel welcome.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
The Board will be extending an invitation to Bishop Rob Patterson to join them for two purposes: to join the discussion on how our staff and church currently functions, and also to discuss another term for Pastor Ray who has the title of Senior Pastor here at Five Forks. In our denomination, the hiring and retaining of Senior Pastors involves not just the congregation and the Board, but also the Bishop of the Conference.
As always, if you have any questions or are interested in further details on any of the discussions listed above, please feel free to contact Pastor Bill, who currently serves as Board Chair.
