It’s amazing how we view our sin so differently depending on whether it’s been exposed or not. During the season of the “cover-up” we find ways to rationalize what we are doing. But everything changes once it gets exposed. For the first time, we see it for what it is. It’s “the horror of self-discovery.”
David had such a moment when the prophet Nathan confronted him and brought his sin to light. The guilt could have crushed David, but instead he cried out to God for mercy. His words are recorded in Psalm 51, and this is the passage we’ll be looking at this Sunday as Bill concludes his series called Ancient Words, Ever True. The message is titled Overcoming Guilt, and we’ll be looking at two things David learned about God and himself that allowed him to get out from underneath the weight of a guilty conscience.
Pastor Ray wraps up his series – Our Weakness, God’s Strength – in the Chapel service that is held at 11:00. This Sunday Ray will be speaking on “Finding Hope in the Midst of Grief.” In the midst of our grief our hearts naturally ask at least 3 questions: Does God care about this situation and understand how I feel? Does He care about it? Is He really in control, that is, can He do anything about it? Ray will be sharing with us the answers to those questions this Sunday. Our Scripture text is Revelation 21:4 and John 11.
