All But One

It’s been a week since Easter and Mary has seen the Lord.  The disciples have seen the Lord.
Well, all but one.
Thomas – one of the Twelve – was not there when Jesus first appeared to the disciples.   And don’t you think it has to be killing him?
Imagine your circle of friends getting together and going out but for some reason you couldn’t join them. And then they happen to experience something incredible. What do they say the next time they see you? “Oh, you should have been there!”    You smile and are happy for them, but inside you’re dying. I think for a week  Thomas was dying inside.
This week in the Auditorium Pastor Bill continues the sermon series I Have Seen the Lord.   We are taking most of April to look at a number of post-resurrection appearances that Jesus makes. This week we’ll look at the encounter between Jesus and Thomas (yes, it eventually happened) and what God wants to teach us from this passage (John 20:24-31).  Bill’s message is titled Thomas Was Not There.
We’ll look at:
Those Who Saw
The One Who Didn’t
Those Who Haven’t
Pastor Ray begins a series in the Chapel called Spiritual Friendship.   His message this Sunday is called “Our Hearts Burned Within Us” and Ray will have us consider how to become more aware of our experience with God. As we read our Scripture text – Luke 23:13-35, we will see that Luke’s intent is to confirm the reality of Jesus’ resurrection. But notice how he does it, recounting the story of two friends, followers of Jesus, talking about their recent experiences.   Come and see how their story relates to our lives and our experience with God.
