Where is the Lamb?

Over the course of the next 5 Sundays in the Auditorium we’re going to be tracking The Story of the Lamb as it unfolds throughout the Scriptures.
It begins in Genesis chapter 4 with only a nod to a lamb. You won’t find the word “lamb” in this text in other words. Go ahead and read the first 10 verses of Genesis 4 before Sunday. Those who read ahead indicate how much more they understand when we gather together. We’ll also be in Genesis 22 (where a lamb is mentioned, but missing.), so you’ll want to read the first 14 verses of this chapter as well.
What to look for: What warning does God give to Cain and what does it say to you?   What question does Isaac ask of his father; what is his father’s response, and how does this foreshadow the work of the Jesus, the Lamb of God?
The chapel sermon this Sunday is entitled Testing the Spirits.  It’s the fourth message in Pastor Brian’s “Yes I Know” series on the book of 1 John.  We’ll be looking at 1 John 4:1-6.  John’s concern here is the danger of false prophets in the church.  And he emphasizes the spiritual evil that lies behind the lies!  He says we need to test the spirits behind the message being presented.  The test is centered on the person and nature of Jesus Christ.  What is the teacher’s or preacher’s beliefs about Jesus and who He is?  We’ll benefit greatly from John’s words here, as well as a number of supporting passages from the Apostle Paul.
