The Church Board’s monthly meeting took place on Tuesday evening, February 12th. Here is a summary report from the February Board meeting:
As the Board continues to keep abreast of attendance and contribution figures, Pastor Bill reported that attendance has been steadily increasing since late September. Our average attendance for January was 704, not taking into account the two weeks that were impacted by snow. Contributions were also strong ($7,000 over last January) in spite of canceling all services on the 20th. We ended the month with $15,994 in our General Account.
The Board voted to re-appoint Bill to serve in the role of Administrative Pastor in 2019. The Board will discuss at next month’s meeting whether to change the length of this term; and also discuss how this position relates to the role of the Chairman of the Church Board.
The Board began discussions regarding our current purpose statement (Our Purpose is to be a Growing Community of Disciple-Makers by: Worshipping God Whole-Heartedly as a way of life, Sharing the Good News about Jesus Everywhere, Being Transformed by God’s Word, and Caring Compassionately for the Need of Others”). While we tend to go with a condensed version, there is a recognition that we need to look at a better way to communicate and define our purpose. The 2019 theme of “Knowing, Loving, Following Jesus” was discussed as a potential purpose statement that would take us beyond this year.
Discussion revolved around different options at our disposal in the event of snow on a Sunday morning. The Board discussed the importance of effective communication and various ways to modify services to relieve volunteers of the obligation to be here.
Christina Martin updated the Board on the newly formed Women’s Ministry Committee. Discussion revolved primarily around possible ways to provide counseling services for women that had previously been offered through Rochelle Nolt.
As our congregation becomes increasingly aware of and embraces our identity as Brethren in Christ, the Board continues to look at our practices and discuss if they are consistent with who we are and what we believe. Towards that end, we have established a year-long sermon series theme that will include an in-depth study of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (the Brethren in Christ – as well as other denominations – believe this sermon provides a blueprint of the everyday Christian life).
This was the final meeting of this church board before reorganizing in March. Those who have served on the Church Board this past year consisted of…
